This prestigious recognition is a testament to Dr. Dale’s unwavering dedication and profound impact in the field of geriatric oncology. Dr. Dale’s contribution to the field of geriatric oncology has been nothing short of extraordinary. Dr. Dale is an internationally recognized leader in cancer and aging, supportive care medicine, cancer survivorship and medical decision-making. As an internist, geriatrician, and supportive care medicine physician with a doctorate in health policy, Dale has devoted his career to improving and optimizing the care for older adults with cancer and other diseases. Over the course of his career, Dr. Dale has tirelessly worked to improve the lives of elderly cancer patients through his compassionate approach to care and has been an advocate for personalized and patient-centered treatments. His innovative studies have shed light on the unique challenges faced by older adults with cancer, leading to a better understanding of their specific needs and the development of tailored interventions.
Dr. Dale is also the George Tsai Family Chair in Geriatric Oncology in Honor of Arti Hurria, MD, and vice chair for academic affairs in the Department of Supportive Care Medicine at City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States. He has over 250 publications and continuous funding from NIH on medical decision-making, high-value care models, and building age-friendly infrastructure. In addition to leading the publication of the latest ASCO guideline for the care of older adults with cancer, Dale is co-lead of the Cancer & Aging Research Group (CARG), the largest organization of its kind in North America.
“I am honored and humbled to bring the B.J. Kennedy Geriatric Oncology Award from ASCO to City of Hope, where so much seminal work in cancer and aging is being done,” said Dale. “My life has been dedicated to bringing exceptional research, training, and clinical care to the most vulnerable patients — older adults denied access to the highest quality care. Through City of Hope’s Center for Cancer & Aging in the Department of Supportive Care Medicine and the global Cancer and Aging Research Group (CARG), this award reflects our status as a beacon for older cancer patients and their families.”
“City of Hope holds a revered place in the cancer and aging world, created here by my friend and colleague Arti Hurria, MD. When I joined City of Hope 7 years ago, it was in large part to work with Arti and her team to grow the field together. Her passing in 2018 was tragic beyond words. For me to now hold the George Tsai Family Chair in Geriatric Oncology in Honor of Arti Hurria, MD brings me a deep sense of pride. I believe that Arti would be proud of the light we’ve brought to older adults through the work we do, represented by this award she was the first to bring here.”
Beyond his academic achievements, Dr. Dale’s commitment to patient advocacy and education is truly commendable. His outstanding contributions to the field of geriatric oncology have had a profound impact on the lives of countless patients and their families. His dedication, expertise, and compassionate approach have set a benchmark for excellence in the field.
Thank you, Dr. Dale, for your unwavering commitment to improving the lives of older adults with cancer and for the invaluable impact you have made in the field of geriatric oncology.
